The collaboration began nine months before the actual event, with the working group planning construction measures, establishing and maintaining contact with all crews and making arrangements with TARMAC e.V.. This enabled us to carry out important internal educational and awareness-raising work on the topic of inclusion.
Thanks to financial support from Aktion Mensch, the concepts developed could be implemented as follows:
With a contingent of around 30, so-called participation tickets for the festival were offered at a discount in order to also address financial barriers, which disproportionately often affect people with disabilities. The target group was people with a severely disabled pass. The free transportation of assistants was included. As the venue is quite remote, we also offered a wheelchair-accessible shuttle service to and from the nearest regional train station.
The infrastructure of the festival was expanded to include wheelchair-accessible sanitary facilities and paths. Other construction measures included the installation of heavy-duty mats, the lowering of service counters and the construction of a participation camp. The participation camp was characterized by permanent electricity access for aids, a medicine refrigerator and the possibility to borrow aids. We also provided larger jute tents, camp beds, spare wheelchairs, sleeping bags, polarized sunglasses and hearing protection.
