Tarmac Festival 2024

The TARMAC Festival is a volunteer-organised music and culture festival held at Allstedt Airfield in Saxony-Anhalt.

In 2024, we were once again together people from the Working Group Teilhabe (engl. participation). The event took place from 29 August to 1 September 2024.

The cooperation is currently ongoing (see more under Projects).

In 2024, we made a conscious decision to focus on further developing and consolidating existing structures. After our first try has passed in 2023, we wanted to not only repeat our measures, but also professionalise them based on the experience we had gained and the feedback we had received.

We also took part in the workshop organised by the Initiative Barrierefrei Feiern (engl. Barrier-Free Celebrations Initiative), whose valuable content was directly incorporated into our planning.

  • The site

Compared to last year, we laid 25% more heavy-duty mats, creating additional accessible paths, floors and lounge areas for people with walking and standing disabilities. In addition, important locations were made accessible by means of ramps. Some dance floors incorporated platforms in the public area.

We received special support from Investitionsbank Sachsen-Anhalt, which donated eight barrier-free cable bridges. These were used on the main public access routes.

  • The sanitary facilities

The handicapped accessible sanitary facilities were greatly improved thanks to micro-funding from Aktion Mensch. In addition to three DIXIE toilets, there was also an accessible toilet container and a combined toilet and shower container with hot water this year. All sanitary facilities were equipped with lighting, disinfectant and a locking system.

  • Participation camp and tickets

As in previous years, the Participation Camp offered guests with Participation Tickets the opportunity to camp with friends. Located within the regular camping area, the Participation Camp had a room protected from the weather with power connections for assistive devices, a refrigerator for storing medicine and an accessible toilet nearby. Free assistive devices such as camp beds, sleeping bags, replacement wheelchairs, hearing protection and polarised sunglasses were also offered for depsosit. This time, the camp was located in a quieter area than last year. We also set up a particularly quiet camping area at the edge of the site for those who needed more peace and quiet.

Separately from regular ticket sales, we once again coordinated communication with guests and managed a quota of 30 participation tickets.

  • The lighting concept

Since strong light stimuli can exclude people with photosensitive epilepsy, we further developed the existing lighting concept from the previous year. Every night, at least two areas/ dance floors were available with dim lighting.

Our work doesn't stop here!

Following the event, we asked holders of participation tickets to provide voluntary feedback, which we will incorporate into our planning for 2024.
